Peck – store or restaurant?
The Peck, located near the cathedral in Milan, is part shop and part restaurant. It opened in 1883 and still serves guests today.
Founded in Milan in 1883 by Francis Peck (a butcher from Prague) in Via Orefici, it was a “Prague” – type sausage and smoked meat shop that gained a prestigious place in the city.
In 1912, it was bought by Elisha Magnaghi, who moved it to Via Spadari 9 (still located today) and expanded the product range to include fresh pasta, ready-made meals, and ravioli.

“Peck” quickly became a meeting place for intellectuals, writers, and actors (Gabriele D’Annunzio, Dario Niccodemi, Arnaldo Fraccaroli, Renato Simoni became its regulars).
In 1956, Peck was bought by brothers Giovanni and Luigi Grazioli, sons of a butcher in the Milanese countryside and some of the earliest founders of restaurants in Milan. In 1970, the Stoppani family was the new owner with Angelo’s support. In April 2013, after 43 years, the Stoppani family withdrew from the company and sold it to Pietro Marzotto.
Below is a short video, unfortunately in Italian, but you can admire all the delicacies sold in “Peck”

I lived in Milan for 18 years, and it was there that I came to know the city’s daily life best - not just its landmarks, but also its rhythm, its habits, and its less obvious sides. Today I live in Wrocław, but I still return to Milan regularly.
