Could Lapland be located near Milan?

A resident of Melegnano, in the province of Milan – Massimiliano Goglio, transforms his home into a magical Santa Claus House every year!

The idea to create a Santa Claus house was born back in 1988, out of Massimilian and his family’s great love for Christmas. The beginnings were modest, as the first year the house was decorated with “only “8,000 lights, but year by year the project grew and last Christmas the number of lights reached 500,000! A real joyful dance of lights and magic that attracts tourists from all over Italy every year. It has become a tradition that from St. Ambrose, December 7 until Epiphany, January 6, every day between 5 pm and 10 pm, it is a favorite destination for children and adults.

Massimiliano, every year he tries harder and harder, and every year he prepares a surprise, about which nothing is known until the day of the inauguration. And as proof that he puts his whole heart into the whole endeavor, here are some figures from last year. The entire project consisted of:

  • 469,382 energy-saving LEDs
  • a new 9-foot spruce tree was erected, decorated with 24,640 LEDs with 78,000 crystals
  • 22,000 watts consumed
  • 10,000 meters of electric wires were used

Every year the garden of this villa turns into an enchanting corner of Lapland, where Santa Claus prepares a trip around the world. A magical place where even adults open their mouths in surprise and can feel like children again. Apparently, there is also a letterbox where you can drop letters to Santa Claus?

And now the best part – the garden can be viewed completely free of charge, although only from the street. And because it attracts so many visitors each year, the street on which it is located is closed to vehicular traffic.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

When is it possible to see Santa’s house?

Daily between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. from December 7 to January 6

How to get to there?

The house is located in Melegnano, at Via dei Platani 31 – you can get there by car, parking in the neighborhood. Alternatively, you can take public transportation, the yellow subway line in the direction of San Donato, to Rogoredo station and there change to the S1 suburban train line in the direction of Lodi. Get off at the train station and from there, it’s about an 800-meter walk.

Finally, it should be added that this is not an initiative of any company or organization, it is entirely private, so I find it difficult to imagine how much the family’s electricity bill is coming to?

I lived in Milan for 18 years, and it was there that I came to know the city’s daily life best - not just its landmarks, but also its rhythm, its habits, and its less obvious sides. Today I live in Wrocław, but I still return to Milan regularly.
